Latest Update

I was not aware that in the last update, my suggestion as to the ‘club closing date’ would be taken as gospel. I did preface it with “…..if I were a betting man”, which anyone who knows me knows I would never get rich by betting! Plus of course, we have always said that there would be at least one month’s warning, as we have to give staff appropriate notice, advise suppliers and utility providers — as well as Members — of the closing date, and do a host of administrative duties—such as advising our members where they will be made welcome by other clubs in the area, etc. ...... more >>>

The Victorian Seniors Travel Package

Applications are now being accepted for the Seniors Sunday Pass. This pass provides Victorian Seniors with free travel within zones 1+2+3 on Sundays from 27 August 2006. Free travel is also available on local town bus services around the state.
Seniors will now be eligible for concession fares on V/Line services at all times (current time restrictions will be abolished). This will halve most peak fares on weekdays and significantly reduce fares on weekends. Seniors will also receive two off-peak travel vouchers every year, enabling them to travel free on selected off-peak services. These will be posted out in late 2006.
The best way to apply to apply for the Seniors Sunday Pass is online at metlinkmelbourne.com.au. Passes are mailed out.
Application forms are now available from Elwood RSL as well as more than 1,000 locations across Victoria, including premium railway stations, V/Line staffed stations, the Metshop at Melbourne Town Hall (corner of Swanston and Little Collins Streets) and Metcard retail agents. Application forms can be posted in.
Seniors Sunday Passes can also be obtained 'on the spot' from all Premium and V/Line staffed stations from 9.30am to 3.00pm Monday to Friday. Seniors need to present a completed application form and their Victorian Seniors Card.
Further information on these initiatives and other public transport services is available from metlinkmelbourne.com.au or by telephoning 131 638.

Access to RSL
Sub-Branches by Members of the ADF

The RSL state executive (Victoria) recently past a resolution to allow access to sub-branches and the use of RSL facilities to all Australian Defence Force members in Victoria, full-time and part-time, on the production of their Service ID card.

Building Progress Report

So, the date was given in good faith, but nothing is in concrete until you see a sign up in the club to the effect that we are closing. The main reason we were held up is that we were advised that it was likely the Council would rubber stamp the additional Community Room at the back of the Bendigo Bank, and we could get on with the construction. However, the Council saw the additional facility as a whole new ball game, and required we either:

1. go with the existing approved plan and submit a subsequent plan for the new addition, or
2. start again with a whole new application.

We have therefore decided to go with the existing plan, and are awaiting advice from ANZAC House’s bank if they require units to be sold-off-the-plan, or whether we can go ahead with no pre-sales. It is my understanding that this process could take some weeks, and could go either way. Our advice regarding sales off-the-plan is that they are slower than they were, and it might take longer to sell them than we would like. So it is far from certain that we will close sooner rather than later, but we live in hope and expect some recognition that the state branch of the RSL has a good relationship with their bank, and we are using a very well regarded builder in Baulderstone. If all goes well, we could be out by the end of September, but please don’t take this as a firm date. Also.. if the bank insists on pre-sales, we could be here a lot longer.

Watch this space……
